Range Review: Quick Release Fire Extinguisher Mount

Range Review: Quick Release Fire Extinguisher Mount

We at Range Industries know Fire extinguishers play a critical role in motorsports and off-road activities where the risk of fire is heightened due to the presence of flammable fuels and other combustible materials. The adage "better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" stays true to this product exceptionally. This universal product offers drivers a sense of safety in the event that we all hope never happens, a vehicle fire.

With that being said, here are some key points regarding fire extinguishers in these contexts:

  1. Mandatory Equipment: In many motorsports competitions and off-road events, fire extinguishers are mandatory safety equipment. Governing bodies such as the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) in international motorsports or local racing organizations typically specify the type and size of fire extinguishers required.

  2. Types of Fire Extinguishers: The type of fire extinguisher required depends on the specific regulations of the event or competition. Common types used in motorsports and off-road applications include dry chemical extinguishers (ABC or BC), clean agent extinguishers (such as Halotron or FE-36), and foam extinguishers. Each type has its advantages and suitability for different types of fires.

  3. Mounting and Accessibility: Fire extinguishers must be securely mounted within the vehicle or within easy reach of the driver and any crew members. In motorsports, they are often mounted in the cockpit, within arm's reach of the driver, or in designated locations within the vehicle. In off-road vehicles, they may be mounted on roll cages or other accessible areas.

  4. Size and Capacity: The size and capacity of the fire extinguisher are usually dictated by regulations or safety standards. Larger vehicles or those carrying more fuel may require larger extinguishers or multiple units for adequate fire suppression capability.

  5. Maintenance and Inspection: Regular maintenance and inspection of fire extinguishers are essential to ensure they are in proper working condition. This includes checking pressure gauges, inspecting hoses and nozzles for damage, and verifying that the extinguisher has not expired.

  6. Training: It's crucial for drivers, crew members, and support personnel to be trained in the proper use of fire extinguishers. This includes understanding the different types of fires and the appropriate extinguishing agent to use, as well as proper technique for effective fire suppression.

  7. Emergency Response Planning: In addition to fire extinguishers, motorsports teams and off-road enthusiasts should have comprehensive emergency response plans in place, including procedures for evacuating vehicles in the event of a fire and coordinating with emergency services.

Overall, fire extinguishers are a vital safety component in motorsports and off-road activities, helping to mitigate the risks associated with fires and ensuring the safety of participants and spectators alike.
